Sep 4, 2017Henry L. Hellyer Jr. passed away at The Hill at Whitemarsh, Lafayette Hill, Pa., on Monday, July 10, 2017, in the loving embrace of family. He was 96.He was the husband of the late Mary Elizabeth 'Betty' Irwin Hellyer, who passed away Feb. 1, 2015.He was born in Abington, Pa., son of the late Henry L. Hellyer Sr. and Ella Maude Stickley Hellyer, and received his education in both the United States and England. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force.The owner of three companies, principally Keystone Scent of Philadelphia, he built and ran a successful business over a span of more than 50 years. He considered his financial success a gift that carried with it the responsibility of generosity to others. In addition to loyal provision for his own family, he faithfully supported scholarships for future ministers and missionaries; aid to mission hospitals and clinics; gifts to a variety of helping ministries; and assistance to many individuals in need.He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Lancaster and a past member and ruling elder of Calvary Presbyterian Church of Willow Grove, Pa.Henry had a great love of classical music and of nature's beauty. He established homes in Pennsylvania, Florida and Maine with his wife, Betty, where they offered hospitality over many decades to a wide circle of family and friends. Most beloved to him was their home by the sea on the coast of Maine - his 'shangri la.' There, the guest albums were filled with hundreds of photos and thank you notes commemorating a multitude of houseguests, and the annual vacations of Henry and Betty's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Up to the end of his life, he cherished a long view and a sweeping symphony.He is survived by three daughters: Gayle, wife of Theron Jenkins, of New Hope, Pa., Judith, wife of Kenneth Vail, of Blue Bell, Pa., and Deborah DeFord, wife of Harry Stout, of Stony Creek, Conn., eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his ...
